My name is Kayla Neuberger. I’m eighteen years old and about to graduate. I’ll be attending YSU in the fall. I have one dog of my own -- Lola. She’s a five-month-old Basset Hound/ Springer Spaniel mix. She is white with big black spots and has cute over-sized paws with short, stubby legs. Lola is a rescue through A Place for Paws. I got her when she was eight weeks old. Raising a puppy has proved to be a difficult job. It’s almost like having a baby in the house. I truly love dogs. Each one has its own unique characteristics and personality. Certain ones will make you laugh and others just want to cuddle all the time. My admiration for dogs comes from the fact that they love you no matter what. They accept you for whatever type of person you are. A dog is undoubtedly the most loyal pet you could have. At daycare, I make sure to spend time with all the different dogs. We play outside with toys and sometimes just run around in circles. When it’s warm out, I also love to swim with the dogs in our outdoor pool. Swimming is one of my favorite things to do and it’s another great way for me to connect with the dogs. I feel it’s important to give all of them attention because they should be used to interaction with people. It’s good for dogs to become friends with more than just one person because it helps them develop into a well-rounded pet. I started working at A Place for Paws because I love animals and I thought it would be a lot of fun playing with the dogs. However, it has turned out to be a lot more than that. I’ve had the opportunity to get to know the dogs and have come to understand their nature. I know more about training, obedience, and the way the dog’s mind works. I love my job because I work in a great atmosphere with wholesome people. Animal lovers tend to be really down to earth.
