| The Pool | |
Lure him in, place him in or just watch him go.We basically get four kinds of dogs at our swimming pool. First, the easy ones, just run up the ramp and walk right in the pool. They are naturals and after that nothing much keeps them out of the pool. Second, there are some who need some gentle persuasion, which we usually provide in the form of treats. It should be something that floats well, like our Nothing But...Lamb Lung. Sometimes a toy or a ball that floats will do the trick. The third kind of dog is tentative on the ramp and not sure of the whole thing but interested. For this type of dog, if they are light enough, we will gently lift them over the side of the pool and lower them in facing the ramp. They will often swim out and then investigate from the ramp and possibly return to the pool from there. This has the added advantage of them knowing the way out of the pool before they go in. The last common type is the dog who won't go near the pool - no way - no how. They usually won't even come in the pool area. However, even those dogs with time will sometimes learn to enjoy it. Now outside of these four kinds of swimming dogs. We also have dogs who fall in and have to be saved and dogs who will only swim with a person in the pool. So bring your dogs out and let's see what kind of pool pup they are!
