You Should Be In Charge - Not Your DogDo - Eat before you feed your dog Don't - Feed your dog first Do - Restrict access to your bedrooms and furniture Don't - Allow your dog to get on furniture whenever he feels like it
Don't - Let your dog restrict access to anything in the house or to take up residence in the doorway. Do - Proceed first through narrow passages, doors and stairways Don't - Let your dog bound out ahead of you or push you out of the way Do - Run in the opposite direction if your dog 'takes off' on a walk Don't - "Chase your dog yelling ""COME""" Do - Take your dog's 'kills' (stolen articles or food) away from him Don't - Allow your dog to keep or play with what he has 'stolen' Do - Call your dog to you to give affection Don't - Go over to your dog to give him affection Do - Ignore or discourage whining, pawing and nudging Don't - Give attention when your dog demands it Do - Give limited attention to your dog first thing in the morning, when you get home, or when you come in Don't - Make a big fuss over your dog whenever he demands that you do so Do - Give one command and follow through with what you asked your dog to do Don't - Give more than one command or give up Do - Initiate games with your dog and play by your rules. Be sure you can take possesion of the toy when/if you want to Don't - Play games without any rules - this can promote pushy or rude behavior from your dog Do - Set your dog up to succeed and reward your dog for completing an exercise well Don't - "Get frustrated at your dog for ""not listening"". Ask yourself why he is not listening and think for ways to change it
