You Should Be In Charge - Not Your Dog

Do - Eat before you feed your dog  

     Don't  -  Feed your dog first

Do - Restrict access to your bedrooms and furniture   

      Don't - Allow your dog to get on furniture whenever he feels like it


Do - Take the shortest route to your destination and make your dog move out of the way   

     Don't - Let your dog restrict access to anything in the house or to take up residence in the doorway.

Do - Proceed first through narrow passages, doors and stairways

     Don't -  Let your dog bound out ahead of you or push you out of the way

Do - Run in the opposite direction if your dog 'takes off' on a walk

     Don't - "Chase your dog yelling ""COME"""

Do - Take your dog's 'kills' (stolen articles or food) away from him

     Don't - Allow your dog to keep or play with what he has 'stolen'

Do - Call your dog to you to give affection 

     Don't - Go over to your dog to give him affection

Do - Ignore or discourage whining, pawing and nudging   

     Don't - Give attention when your dog demands it

Do - Give limited attention to your dog first thing in the morning, when you get home, or when you come in    

     Don't - Make a big fuss over your dog whenever he demands that you do so

Do - Give one command and follow through with what you asked your dog to do   

     Don't - Give more than one command or give up

Do - Initiate games with your dog and play by your rules. Be sure you can take possesion of the toy when/if you want to    

     Don't - Play games without any rules - this can promote pushy or rude behavior from your dog

Do - Set your dog up to succeed and reward your dog for completing an exercise well     

     Don't - "Get frustrated at your dog for ""not listening"". Ask yourself why he is not listening and think for ways to change it
