• Don’t allow pulling to work for your dog. • Be the leader - literally! Don’t allow your dog to decide where to walk, how fast or when to stop. • The collar should be snug and worn high on the dog’s neck for best control. • Check and reposition the collar as needed. • Keep your leash short with just enough slack that your dog can feel the difference between a loose and tight leash. • Choose a side to walk your dog on and stick with it. If you are interested in teaching heeling as well choose the left side. • As soon as your dog pulls say “Eheh!” or “No!”, back up several feet and reposition your dog at your side. • When your dog is walking politely at your side give him a tasty treat. • If your dog is already a strong, persistent puller, talk with an instructor about which training tool might be right for you and your dog.
