What's Needed? - What's Not?

Q. Do I need to use any supplements with a raw food or quality kibble diet?

A. Yes, even with a diet full of a variety of fresh raw foods, there are certain elements or nutrients that are not bioavailable or stable in manufactured foods.

Q. What kinds of nutrients are our pets missing?

A. Our pets need essential fatty acids (EFAs) to support healthy skin, hair, joints and hearts.  EFAs must be raw and unheated so they are often lost in manufacturing.  Omega-3 fatty acids are available in salmon and other fish and Omega-6s are found abundantly in flaxseed and hemp oil.  Vitamin C is not available in sufficient quantities to boost our pets’ immune systems and combat today’s toxins.  There are also a variety of trace minerals which can be missed even in a diet full of variety.

Q. Specifically, what supplements are recommended?

A. Omega-6s in the form of flax seed, ground or oil, Omega-3s from Salmon oil or Fish body oil; Vitamin C most easily digested in the form of Ester-C; Kelp, as a source of many trace minerals.

Q. Should I be using a multiple vitamin supplement for my pet?

A. At A Place For Paws, we are not necessarily advocates of multivitamins or any supplements you do not specifically need.  However, if it gives you peace of mind, it is not harmful to add a multi as the elements in these are water soluble and are simply expelled from your pet’s system if unneeded.
