Food is a huge factor in your pet's immune system

A strong immune system is the key to well being in all living creatures. The immune system provides the ammunition for the body to fight all diseases from allergies to kennel cough to cancer. In our pets, one of the keys to a healthy immune system is a species appropriate diet.

We know cats to be obligate carnivores, which means they need a diet of meat to sustain themselves. Dogs are situational carnivores and can survive on a more varied diet although meat is still the primary source of their nutritional well-being. All meat for our pets should be raw, as they would eat in the wild, which is much easier to digest than meat that is cooked.

The immune system can also be bolstered by certain nutrients. Of special note, would be the Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. Because of the carnivorous nature of our pets, the fatty acids from animal sources would be the most bioavailable to them. Salmon oil is an excellent source of fatty acids.

Other factors that positively affect the immune system are a toxin free environment, clean available water, sufficient exercise and the stress free mental state of the animal.

It is possible to have an animal who is abundantly healthy for all of his very long life!
